Founder's note

Built by players, edited like a broadsheet.

I started SteelLootChronicle in a Portland Street loft in 2016 because gaming coverage had become a race to publish — scores posted before the credits rolled, loot systems praised before anyone understood the drop rates. I wanted the opposite: a publication that treats a game like a subject worth studying.

Every review here is played to completion. Every economy piece is modelled with real drop data. Our hardware guides are bench-tested for weeks, not unboxed for a headline. That patience is why studios, tournament organisers, and readers across Toronto trust what we print.

Answers

Frequently asked questions.

How do you decide review scores?+

Every score is assigned only after an editor completes the main campaign or reaches the endgame loop. We weigh mechanics, pacing, monetisation fairness, and post-launch patches. Scores are revisited if a major update meaningfully changes the experience.

Do you accept payment from studios for coverage?+

Never. We do not run paid reviews, affiliate-driven scores, or sponsored verdicts. Membership fees and one-off report sales fund our newsroom, which keeps our editorial judgement independent of the studios we cover.

What does a membership include?+

From CA$8 per month you get full completion reviews, early access to hardware bench guides, and a members-only monthly briefing. Annual members also receive one quarterly loot economy report at no extra cost.

Can I visit the King West newsroom?+

We host open editor hours on the last Thursday of each month at our Portland Street office in King West. Drop us a note through the contact form and we'll add you to the guest list — the hardware lab tour is a favourite.

How can I pitch a story or send a game for review?+

Use the contact form below or email our editorial desk directly. We review every pitch within five business days and prioritise indie and Canadian studios. Please include platform, expected release window, and a review build if one is available.
